Cultivated CBD is a Minnesota-based CBD company. Our business combines the exceptional skills of our founders and partners including experienced Cannabis growers and extractors, policy experts, and medical professionals.
WHAT IS CBD AND WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
CBD is a compound called a “cannabinoid” that is naturally found in both hemp and cannabis. Hemp and cannabis both contain many different compounds, including at least 85 different cannabinoids. Cannabinoids affect the cannabinoid receptors in the brain. Different cannabinoids are known to have different effects.
THC (aka tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (aka cannabidiol) are the two cannabinoids that are found in the largest amounts in hemp and cannabis. Cannabis usually has high levels of THC and low (or zero) levels of CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, usually has high levels of CBD and low (or zero) levels of THC.
THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis that gets people “high.” Because hemp has extremely low or no THC at all, hemp products are not psychoactive. CBD is the main compound in hemp that is associated with medicinal effects.
All of our CBD comes from USA-grown and extracted hemp.
HOW CAN I TELL IF THE PRODUCTS I’M BUYING ARE REAL?
There is no single answer to this, but there are some things to look out for when purchasing products.
Ambiguous statements are a red flag. An example would a package that says “300 mg.” 300 mg of what? If it doesn’t say, you can’t know for sure.
A clear statement should say exactly what they mean when they say “300 mg.” A good label will say whether that means “300 mg of CBD” or “300 mg of CO2 oil.” It’s important to realize that a “300 mg CO2 oil” product should also say how much CBD is in the oil. It could be made up of 60% CBD and 40% other ingredients, resulting in 180 mg of actual CBD.
If no CBD mg number is given for the product, that’s another potential red flag. You should see either an actual number or a percentage right on the package. You should never have to guess about the real CBD content.
A final red flag to look out for is how the CBD was extracted. There are several common ways of extracting CBD (distillate, CO2 extraction, ethanol extraction, etc.) If the label doesn’t say what type of oil it is, it might be that whoever made it is being less than truthful about the actual CBD content. It may not contain any CBD at all.
HOW CAN I BE SURE THERE’S REAL CBD IN YOUR PRODUCT?
All of our products are tested by state accredited labs. We provide our test results to the public for total transparency.
Beyond that, we tour and vet any of the labs that we work with to be sure that all of our products are free from pesticides, solvents, and mycotoxins.
IS ALL CBD THE SAME?
Unfortunately, no. Due to the current lack of regulations, many companies are selling products that have little to no CBD in them with no repercussions.
In fact, some companies add harmful ingredients to their products to increase profit margins.
- Many vape pens contain MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) Oil. This is a lipid that’s terrible for your lungs and can lead to lipid pneumonia.
- Many vape pens have not had the naturally occurring fats, waxes, and lipids removed. Like MCT Oil, these contaminants can lead to lipid pneumonia.
